Skype-communication with the author of the book "The curious Mr. Howard," British writer Tessa West was the "highlight" of Howard readings, which held on Thursday in Kherson.Under Howard readings was held a presentation of thematic excursion, were heard poems, demonstrated archival documents, researches of ethnographers. A highlight of the event was Skype-conversations with the author of the book "The curious Mr. Howard," British writer Tessa West.
In addition, participants of the readings (which are members of City Council, businessmen, teachers, students, members of the search circles, etc.) were able to see the first book of Tessa West "The curious Mr. Howard."
Attention of T. West to John Howard is not by chance. She is a teacher by education, but 15 years was working in prisons with teenagers and adults, including teaching she was the Head of the department of education in prisons. "As John Howard, I agree that if we pay more attention to people in prisons, the crime will diminish. These people themselves become better" – said the British writer during a visit to Kherson in September 2010.
John Howard (1726 – 1790) – well-known English philanthropist, lawyer, reformer of prison system, a researcher of mass infectious diseases in Europe. Kherson became the last city on his life's journey. John Howard arrived here in October 1789, took care of the local hospitals and prisons, healed the sick and died there of typhus in January 1790.
